SEAS welcomes Iain Gray’s appointment as Education Skills and Science spokesperson for Labour in the Scottish Parliament. The SEAS are pleased to welcome Iain’s continued leadership in this area to challenge the unwelcome, regressive changes of SNP and to build an agenda for real change in education that will deliver for our schools and children and young people. Indeed we remember that back in the day the SEAS were one of the first groups in the Labour Party to support his nomination as MSP (back in the last century!).
We look forward to working more closely with Iain in the future and we have been in touch with him to meet up and discuss ways we can achieve co-operation and support. Recently we have highlighted 5 top points for education and also we were considering being the support for a cross-party group on Inclusive Comprehensive Schools. The SEAS notes that within 2017 the SNP has switched from proposing all schools have charitable status to removing it from private fee-paying school.
In welcoming Iain’s appointment we continue to work together on fruitful approaches to push for a more socialist education service in Scotland.
The SEAS follow Iain on Twitter (@IainGrayMSP) and tends to quickly retweet his comments except for those about Hibs!
Our best wishes go to Iain and the rest of Richard’s team.
